- A detail today. We're looking at thin white lines crossing a wide white line. Pretty simple, nothing out of the ordinary, until you notice this. That where those lines cross, they're not white, but gray. The reason for that of course is because if they were white, they'd disappear, like this. So we fudge it. And if we do it right, if the gray's the right amount, here's its 30%, it looks normal. Design has many illusions like this. We had one a while back. Two lines, one solid, one dotted, same width, both 48 points. The problem is the solid line looks heavier, so we had to thin it all the way to 36 points, that's a full 25% thinner, to make the lines look the same. Black lines crossing black, same problem. They disappear, unless you make the crossing point lighter. In this case, it's 65%. When the line is straight across like this, you can do that by just laying a piece of line on top of it.
