- The first thing to know about fear is that in many instances, you're not going to get rid of it. Some things get less scary the more you confront them others don't. But you don't need to get rid of fear. That may not be possible, you just need to change your relationship to it and your reaction to it. And that's something you have control of. To do that, you need to specifically identify your fear. Know thy enemy. And so, I present to you, (drum roll) (whooshing) (dramatic music) Long's Taxonomy of Creative Fears. Topping the list, the fear that we might be stupid. And the reason this one comes up is because we don't always acknowledge that some things are very hard. Feeling difficulty or feeling incapable in the face of doing something hard is perfectly normal and it will kill all your impulses.
