- So the other thing I always considered before starting a drawing, is how to best match the materials I'm using to the subject that I'm looking at. And also, what's available at the time as in, how much time I've got, if I'm going to be standing to do this sketch, if there's somewhere comfy for me to sit down, and then I can change what I'm going to be using to capture the scene, depending on all these different ideas. So I could want a really stark black and white, so I'll definitely go for the pens. Or I could see a view that has got this lovely romantic feel to it, and then I'm going to go for my water colors and pencils. So just have a quick think before you even start your sketch. What your end result is your looking for, and then match your materials to that feeling you're trying to achieve. So I'm faced with this scene, I've got the main interest again of this light here on the top left. But a lot of the planes are all, they're quite flat, there isn't much texture. I suppose…
