- So the final piece to your urban sketching skill set is to introduce monuments, street furniture, and greenery. These elements can be plants and trees, lamp posts and bikes, benches and chairs - they just add a different scale and a different shape to your drawing. If you think of it like a stage set where the buildings are the backdrop, the street furniture and greenery are your props, and the figures bring the whole thing to life. For the first sketch I've got this fabulous horse sculpture in Italy, that I'm going to be drawing in monotone utilizing a water-soluble Sepia ink. (piano music) I'm starting the drawing with a Moody fine line pen and this is the no .5 mil. And I'm first looking at anchor points to block in the shapes of the building. So I'm kind of plotting my way around the scene, so then I can build the monument in the center around those external initial angles. So I'm judging the angle of the roof line and then I'm filling in the smaller shapes for the windows. I've…
