Surfaces of revolution
- [Narrator] Now, we'll look at the implications of paneling curved surfaces, and we'll start with surfaces of revolution. These are surfaces which are created by revolving a section curve around an axis. We have two base surfaces here. The first on the left, which is created with the group at the top, is a straight line that is revolved around a center point. Because sections through this surface that are horizontal will always be circular arcs, and sections that are radial will always be straight lines, we know that a straight up parametric division of this surface will always yield flat panels, because the parameters along the curve are evenly spaced. We can check this out quickly with LunchBox's PanelQuad node. We'll specify perhaps 10 or 20 divisions in the u and v directions, and we can verify that they're planar by passing a polycurve through the points and asking curve is planar.
