Though there were times over the past few years where many suspected that flash had lost its way on the web, this simply was not the place. Flash may have disappeared on mobile devices, for a number of reasons, but it still remains pre-eminent as a solid web animation and motion graphics tool. While mobile was getting all of the attention, Flash quietly picked up a feature in the CS6 version that put it back into the web motion graphic space: CSS Sprite sheets. Animators could still use Flash to create animations of motion graphics, but instead of publishing a SWF that would be embedded into a webpage, they could simply output the animation as a sprite sheet and let HTML5 and CSS3, not the Flash player, handle the heavy lifting duties. Let's see how all this works. Open the Run.fla file found in the Flash Sprite Sheet folder in the download. When it opens, press the Command+Return or CTRL+Enter keys to test the animation.
