Get started creating a simple webpage by creating an account, starting a new project, and choosing one of hundreds of themes.
- To get started working with Editor X, go to their website @editorx.com and create a new account. Once you've done so you'll wind up on a screen that looks very similar to this one. This is your dashboard. I have a few sites inside of my Editor X account and that's because I've already worked with it a few times. You may also see a few sites from Wix because this particular dashboard is centralized and we'll have both Wix websites and Editor X websites. So once you've gotten here to this screen click the Create New Site button or anywhere along the way in the signup process if you're asked to make a new site, click that button and let's make a new site. Which platform do we want to use? Well, we want to use Editor X. And then it will ask us a little bit about the site. We'll be building a website for Topsy Turvy Cake Design. So let's choose restaurant and food. We'll then be prompted with a choice of templates that are available to us. And as you scroll on through here, you'll see that there are some templates here that for whatever reason Editor X has decided are reasonable choices for restaurants and food. You can click on see all templates down here on the bottom to see additional items that we might have as template choices. But what I'm going to recommend is to just simply start with the blank canvas and say edit. Why the blank canvas? Well, the blank canvas is actually very straightforward to configure and use more so than other websites. And that's because they think about the stuff in sections. The starting blank interface always looks a little bit intimidating, but if you start up here in the upper left-hand corner where you see the plus sign and click this, and then go to compositions you'll see that Editor X has a ton of options for laying out specific sections of your webpage. And then you stack these sections on top of each other to create your full webpage. So rather than starting with a theme that might have an entire page designed from top to bottom, instead, we're going to think about our webpage in terms of sections and design each section individually. And that will lead us to a full design for this webpage without having to pick out a theme that we're going to have to customize and change anyway. In addition to these pre-configured themes called compositions, there are also the ability to do various kinds of layout with grids or so-called layouters or repeaters. And there are tons of individual elements here as well, contact forms, decorative elements, media elements and so much more. So spend some time clicking around on your menu options that you have here under this plus sign, add elements here inside of Editor X, before you move on to the next video.
