Rule of three
From the course: Teaching Techniques: Classroom Management
Rule of three
Whether you're narrating student behavior or simply redirecting off task behavior, it's an important practice to remember the rule of three. The rule of three for classroom management is to make sure you have three positive narrations or three positive affirmations for each redirection you give. This applies to narrating and re-directions a whole, as well as for each student. You'll notice in this next situation that I strictly adhere to the rule of three. In fact, once I've noticed an off task behavior for the student I'm going to find three on task students to narrate and give them a chance to self correct before I have to redirect their behavior. Take out the five key ideas from what we just read. At the end of the three minutes please be prepared to move on to our next activity. Do that now. I see team one, everyone's writing, pencil in hand. I see Pierre is writing, Angel's writing. Okay, everyone's working. Two minutes, 30 seconds left. The rule of three is not a direct science…
