Add animation

- [Instructor] One of the biggest challenges you'll face when creating Elearning projects here in Captivate 2019, we'll be finding ways to hold the interest of your learners. One way to do that is to make your slides more visually interesting. We can do that by animating objects on your slide. You can animate texts, we can animate images, for example. That's what we're going to do in this movie, with this version of our Red 30 New Hire Orientation project. Red 30 0301. You'll find that in the chapter three folder of your exercise files. I've added some content, updated slides. We're going to go to the last slide here where we do see our images from earlier with some additional texts down below, for example. If we were to go up here to the preview drop down, and just play slide. You'll notice, nothing really happens. It's very static. The images and content disappear for a couple of seconds, and then reappear. That's interesting. But other than that, nothing's happening on our slide to make it interesting. We might want to consider animating some things like the images themselves. Now when we have nothing selected on a slide, and go the properties over here. Click properties if you're not seeing the properties pin. You'll notice down below, about halfway, that the slide duration is defaulted at five seconds. When we add slides without doing anything, with regards to timings, automatically we see that default of five seconds. Meaning, we see it when we play this completed project. It disappears after five seconds and moves on to the next one. Well when we go to our image and select it, and it can be any of these images. We're going to start with the drone, and go up here to timing. You'll notice it defaults to three seconds. So we see the image for three seconds, and that's why we saw it disappear for a couple. I default the objects we add, default to three seconds. We'll worry about timings in the next movie when we open up the timeline. Right now, we're going to focus on the actual effects down below. And with our drone image still selected, as we scroll a little further down under effects, you can see that the animation we're about to apply will be triggered by a time based animation. In other words, we can set how long the animation lasts, when it starts, et cetera. And currently, you can see the default animation applied is none. There are different categories to choose from. Basic is what we're seeing right now, but we could add emphasis, we can have objects enter with animation, or exit the slide at the end with animation. Even create our own paths if we wanted to. So with basic selected, we can hover over some of these just to get a little preview of what might happen. You can see there's scale, or scale down. Skewing, rotation. Let's go up here, and maybe it'd be more interesting to have these images appear on to the slide. Let's go down here and choose entrance. Now, we get a different set of animations. And as we hover over those, we can see how they might enter the slide. It can ease in from different directions, or even fly in from different directions. Perhaps this would be interesting if it flew in from the left, since it's on the left hand side. Now I notice the arrow down below, there are some more animations we're not seeing here. Like, fly in from left. Now when we select this, it comes with it's own settings down below. First of all, you can see the effects starts at zero seconds. So as soon as the slide appears, this animation kicks in. The effect is going to last for two seconds. We can click and drag to the right to increase, or drag to the left to decrease. You can also click in here and just type in a number. One, for example, and press enter to lock it in. Now, automatically, when this slide appears, that image will fly in from the left, and it'll take a second to do so. Now when we go over here to this image, and select it, we can do the same thing. Click the drop down. Select entrance. This time, we'll have it fly in, say, from the bottom. Select it. Now you can see that we can adjust the start time. Maybe we want it to start after the first image appears. So, that's one second later. Can click and drag across to one second, or, like I said, click inside and type in a one. Press enter. And we'll set the duration to one second like the other, by clicking and typing a one, and pressing enter. Okay, one more image. Let's go it, and do the same thing. Entrance. Let's go over here to get it to fly in from, say, the right hand side. And we'll have it start at two seconds. You can try clicking and dragging, or type in the two. It's up to you. We'll have it happen in one second, like so. Now when we go up to preview, play the slide. Well, they appear just as we wanted them to. The only thing is, they do disappear at the end because they're only on the slide for three seconds. The slide appears for five seconds. So, what happens if we want to do something like adjust that timing to match the length of our slide, or even change the animation. Maybe we want it coming in from the top. Notice, we can't just come in here and choose a different animation. Fact, I don't even see anywhere where we might want to delete it until we scroll up and see, okay, there's a delete button to delete the effect to start over. Another way is to make those adjustments right from the timeline. We'll talk about that next.
