Anonymity and confidentiality in research studies

- If I was teaching you quantitative research in a face-to-face class and I asked you to fill out a survey at the end of the course, you likely wouldn't want me to know which evaluation was yours. No matter if I tell you I won't hold it against you if you give me a bad evaluation, the knowledge that I could link your evaluation to your name could be stressful. Should you be honest if there are problems, and if so, will there be repercussions? If people could alter their evaluations out of fear, there is enough doubt to make the survey instrument less valid or reliable. This is why the privacy and protection for your research subjects is vital. Protecting your population sample either through anonymity or confidentiality must be handled with the utmost respect.
