- A study with over 400 students showed that students who used flashcards as a self-assessment and study tool earned higher exam scores. Another study showed that digital flashcards were just as effective as paper flashcards. And in that study, students liked them better. After all, you can create as many digital flashcards as you want for as many topics as you want and you can access them all from the smartphone in your pocket. Let's try doing this with StudyBlue, a mobile flashcard app. As an example, we'll make flashcards to learn Spanish vocabulary. On the StudyBlue home screen, click the Add Deck button on the bottom menu bar. It looks like a plus sign in a circle. Then choose text or image-based flashcards. Once you have a deck, you can create cards by clicking the Add Card button. In the term field, enter a Spanish word or phrase like (speaks in foreign language).
