Compressing audio
- [Instructor] I'm going to show you how to use compression to even out your vocal track and give it a bit more punch. In case you're not familiar with compression, the concept is this. Compression lowers the level on the loud peaks of your audio so that you can raise the overall volume and make things sound both louder and more consistent. Now, compression can get a bit complicated. But we're just going to keep it simple, and apply a basic compression to even things out. So, what I'm going to do here is pop over to the Audio Effects tab, and there's the Audio Compression effect. I'm just going to drag it to my clip. And just a side note, this works on both audio-video clips, and audio-only clips. Okay, so take a look at that clip. You can see what has happened here is it squished the peaks and evened out the levels, which is great. So far I've compressed my vocal, but my overall volume is much lower, I need to raise the overall level. So I'm going to make sure that clip is selected…
