- They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Today I want to show you how we can use a thousand words to make a powerful picture. Welcome to teacher tips, I'm Oliver Schinkten. And this week I want to share with you a website that helps bring literacy to life in your content area. The name of the website is Wordle. And it helps students conceptualize your content using word clouds. Word clouds are a powerful way to help students develop a deeper understanding of a concept by giving them a visual representation of key terms based on the frequency in which they are used. Here are a couple of examples. This is one on the Civil War. And as you can see, the terminology is on center stage, helping to put the concept of the Civil War into perspective providing students with an effective way to remember the terminology, and creating a ton of discussion points.
