- [Instructor] So especially if you didn't grow up speaking English, diction and idiom can be two of the toughest concepts to learn in the course of normal GMAT prep. Since diction means choosing the appropriate word for the context in terms of normal English usage, and idiom basically means the way it's commonly written in English, you're going to have to recognize correct usage without the benefit of memorizing a simple rule. So in this video, we'll go over some tips on at least how to improve our chances of recognizing correction diction or idiom. So diction is choosing the appropriate word for the context, so if I said I split the check equally between all four of us, that might sound kind of okay, but actually that should be I split the check equally among all four of us, because we use between for two, and then we use among for three or more.
