Equation of a line

- [Instructor] So let's now take a look at the most common kind of coordinate geometry question, questions involving lines. So in this video we'll go over the basics of what you need to know about lines, also known as linear equations. So the typical form for the equation of a line is this, Y equals MX plus B. So X and Y represents the X coordinate and the Y coordinate, M represents the slope of the line and B represents the Y-intercept. So let's have a look at a typical equation of a line here. Let's say we have the line Y equals two X plus four and let's say we went ahead and graphed that. Well, we know the Y-intercept is four, that means the place where the line hits the Y axis is four, so that would be the point zero comma four and then the slope is two. So what we mean by a slope of two, it means that we go up two and over one. And the way to think about that is to rewrite the slope as a fraction, so two can be rewritten as two over one.
