- Your school may have a learning management system, or LMS, as they're called. Now, an LMS is essentially a secure interactive website created specifically for your school. Think of it as a virtual school building. It can host information from the school, courses, assignments, curriculum, resources, grades, live online classes, all that kind of stuff. There are all kinds of learning management systems available. Blackboard, Moodle, Google Classroom, to name just a few. And each one has a unique interface and experience, but they all have a common core. Let's take a look at some of the common features. I'll be demonstrating using Google Classroom. Now, this is just a demo LMS I slapped together. Your school's LMS will undoubtedly have a lot more content, but this will give you the gist. Your school's LMS probably has a main streaming page of some sort, much like you see on Facebook. This is where the information from the school is posted. It's a good idea to stop by here at least once a day for updates from your teachers and administrators. Now, the school will of course do their best to share the information in a timely manner, but ultimately it's up to you to keep yourself informed. You'll also have individual pages for each class your student is enrolled in. Once again, it's a really good idea to stop by daily to check on assignments, events, and student progress. If your school offers live classes, you'll likely access those from the LMS, as well. Another great feature is an online grade book. No need to wait until midterm or the end of the semester to see how things are going. Grades are available 24/7. Keep in mind your teacher is most likely a human with a constant inflow of work to account for, so it may take a bit of time between assignment submissions and posted scores. So please be patient with your teacher and they will likely return the favor. So the takeaway here is to access your LMS daily. This is how your school communicates with you. It's the responsibility of the school to provide the information and resources, and it's your responsibility to avail yourself of that information.
