- A big challenge for any trainer is connecting with people in the room. Today more than ever, participants expect engagement and interaction. So let me share some tips to help you engage your audience. First, choose appropriate engagement techniques. Audience participation encompasses a broad range of activities from a simple show of hands, role-playing in games, and small group exercises. Some trainers like to mix it up each time they begin a session or within learning activities. But if you're new to training, then stick with what you're comfortable with. Second, is to plan ahead. Before asking for participation, think about the types of responses or reactions you might get. You want participants to gain meaningful insight within the activities and help make your point.
