- Have you ever been in a conversation with group of people about something you thought they knew only realizing that after a few minutes they're confused? This happened to me. During of my recent workshops to a group of certified accountants, I was explaining a specific financial concept. I assumed, because they're accounting professionals, they would be familiar with the concept. Regretfully, my assumption was wrong. While some heard of the concept, none of them had any experience with it. This example reminded me, an experienced trainer, that making assumptions isn't something you should do, especially in a training session. Usually, before I step into any workshop, I keep in mind the following three things. The first thing is to recognize that every person has the potential to learn. Never assume that slower learners are less intelligent and faster ones, smarter. Learning is a preference and speed is more about how they learn rather than other factors like age or culture.
