Linear inequalities

- [Instructor] So kind of like linear equations, linear inequalities involve isolating a variable. But when we have an inequality, there's generally going to be a range of answers. So in this video we'll look at some peculiarities of solving linear inequalities. So what if we said something simple like this: X plus two is less than 10. And I was like, hey, tell me what X is. Well, I'm not going to get a straight answer from you for that one, right? I'm going to get a range of answers 'cause I'm going to isolate X, but when I do, if I subtract two from both sides, I'm going to just get that X is less than eight. And same thing as a linear equation, we just kind of isolate the variable to get our solution. Fine. But what about when we have a negative number? So this can be a little sneaky. What if we had negative two X is less than 12? So whenever we divide by a negative number, when we have an inequality we do our normal thing. We divide both sides by that negative number. But then we…
