- [Instructor] One of the ways to improve your reading comprehension is to identify the function or the role of the passage as well as of the parts of the passage. So in this video we'll talk more about this skill and about other ways to get as much as possible from a reading passage without spending all day reading it. So let's talk about some common passage structures that we're going to see. Informative, this is when an author is just basically giving you information about a topic. There's no opinion. There's not really necessarily multiple points of view that may or may not be true. Just kind of like factual info. Then we might have persuasive. This is when an author does have a point of view or maybe there's somebody else that the author is sort of disagreeing with and the author is trying to argue his or her point of view. Then we might see what I would call issue and theories which is when there's a topic. Maybe there's theory A but then there's theory B as well. Sometimes the…
