- Imagine if everyone learned to drive by just getting in a car and figuring it out. Or if airplane mechanics taught themselves how to fix passenger jets. Social learning theory says that we mostly learn from modeling by observing others model something, copying what we see and then later adapting that action for a new context. You've been doing this since you were a baby, so this isn't really new. Let's look at how you can use your mobile device more intentionally to learn from three kinds of modeling. For live modeling, you watch someone do something. Trying to learn a yoga pose? Or how to pitch a curve ball? Or how to set up a chemistry experiment? Ask if you can take a picture or record a video of what you're watching in person so you can review it later as you practice on your own. You can also record yourself to teach others.
