- [Narrator] In a perfect world, everyone would be using the Internet for positive reasons and we wouldn't need to worry about malicious acts. This isn't the case though. There are people out there who use their expertise of computers and software to compromise your safety and security. An example of this is malware. Malware refers to malicious software that's created for the specific purpose of infecting another person's device or software. Malware can damage networks and programs and compromise your privacy and security. There's several different types of malware including computer viruses, which is something you've likely heard of. Adware, which forces unwanted advertisements and pop ups. Spyware, which like it sounds, spies on you and tracks your Internet activity, as well as ransomware, worms and others.
