- [Instructor] So work word problems are also fairly common on the GMAT. These are problems that often involve multiple things completing the same task at different rates. In this video we'll solve a typical work problem. Let's read this. Sarah decides to paint her bedroom with the help of Molasses, her pet sloth. Wouldn't that be nice if you had a pet sloth? That would be a great pet, I think. If Sarah can paint the whole room by herself in four hours and Molasses can paint the whole room by himself in 24 hours, approximately how many minutes will it take both of them to paint the room together? So you might have noticed I was talking about hours and then I was talking about minutes. Well, we'll convert, let's make sure that we do that. I like to say convert before you calculate, so let's just do that to make sure we don't forget. Four hours is how many minutes? Well 60 minutes are in an hour times 4 would be 240. And how many minutes are in 24 hours? 24 times 60, so 0, 24, 1,440 so…
