- I once had a professor who struggled to convey his knowledge. He was a brilliant man and had written a number of statistics textbooks, but he couldn't translate his knowledge into the ideas or concepts students could understand. He was one of those professors who wrote on the chalkboard with one hand and erased with the other. He would solve giant proofs which took up an entire wall and then would say "You know, you don't need to know this, "I just thought it was interesting." It wasn't! Dr. Smith was unable to convey his knowledge of the subject matter to us mere mortals. We've all had a Dr. Smith. Someone knowledgeable and steeped in their subject matter, but unable to teach at a level that students can understand. As a top professor, you need to find a way to effectively teach to your students at their level. First, start each class with a list of objectives you want students to learn.
