Inviting guest speakers

- Inviting a guest speaker to your class can benefit your students, and provide a unique perspective on the topic at hand. Guest speakers can come from a variety of sources depending on your needs. One obvious place to tap are alumni. Consider any former students who are good speakers, or recent graduates who are anxious to share their work experience. Remember, picking the right alumni to speak to your class depends on the topic at hand. Having a recent graduate talk about what it's like to look for her first job makes sense. But for topics that require a more experienced perspective, a new graduate might not be the best choice. Alumni don't need to be your only option. Consider asking the local Chamber of Commerce if they have a list of individuals who'd be willing to speak to classes.
