Respecting your students
- Respect is a two-way street. If you want your students to respect you, you need to first respect your students. You don't automatically have respect bestowed upon you just because you're leading the class. Research indicates that college students respect professors who genuinely care about their well-being. Respect is reflected in how you feel about your students and how you treat them. It means you interact professionally and politely, but it still allows your humanity to shine through. A good way to start earning respect is to model respect. There are five methods for modeling respect. First, establish your professional credibility. You are certainly knowledgeable or even an expert in your field. You may have even published in respected journals, but chances are the students sitting in front of you or in your online class don't know that, so take some time to share your background to establish your credibility.
