- We're looking at the worksheet Fonts in the workbook 04-Formatting. If you click on a cell, on the Home tab you can see what font is being used. Standard font in Excel is called Calibri, as it has been for the last few versions of Excel, and the standard size is 11. At different times, you might want to consider changing these. If we want to make these numbers stand out a little bit more strongly, we could possibly use a larger size, think that'd be 12. Or, instead of that, as I press Control Z to undo, we could consider some other options in the Font group here on the Home tab. Make them Bold, Italic, Underline. Any two, any one, any combination of those, as desired. All of these are what we call toggle buttons. They're on, off. Click them once to apply the feature, again to remove the feature, for times you can easily get to these. Sometimes you want to change the actual font type. Now in older versions of Excel, the standard font was called Arial, size 10. Off to the right, although of not of huge importance, you can see a comparison of the two. Calibri 11, the current standard. Arial 10, pretty much the same although you will see, at different times, a difference, like, between the numbers, seven. The way they're depicted. The dollar sign, slight difference there. Sometimes you're looking at a worksheet, it might look a little strange to you or funny. Maybe it's Arial, size 10, instead of Calibri 11, or vice versa. It's what you're used to that counts. There will be times, too, when you want to change the actual font, for example, in a title. So, I'm clicking on this merged cell that appears across the top of the worksheet, here. On the Home tab next to Candara is a drop arrow and I can slide over some other choices here as well. If you're an indecisive person, well, you're going to have a tough time out here deciding on which one works best. Do notice that the font's size varies with some of these different choices. Some of the fonts, you'll want to use a larger number, or smaller number, for the actual font size here. So, lots of choices there too. And at different times, you might want to consider some other possibilities, here, that are not available in this Font group. You can click the little arrow to the right. It's called a dialogue box launcher. Click that. You can also get here by way of Control 1, although it doesn't always take you to the Font tab. But once here, you can also see we've got some font choices available for Strikethrough. If you need to use Superscript or Subscript, you'll see those here. And possibly you could come here to apply a number of different features at the same time. So you could be applying Bold, and the font type itself, and the size, and a few other features all at once, if you wish. If you simply want to change the font color, if you want the color here to be different, I strongly advise against using red. If you click the drop arrow here, using red sometimes, for a lot of people working with numbers, think those are negatives. So stay away from red. Dark Blue might work just fine, here, maybe Bold, although certainly not necessary. So lots of different capabilities here for working with different font choices. Primarily from the menu, occassionally from that dialogue box that you can get to from the corner.
