- Excel has a special kind of formula called an array formula, and there are also certain functions that are called array functions. And they're a bit hard to describe without actual examples. Many times they involve creating calculations that work across multiple cells. In this worksheet called Arrays, we've got some formulas in Column D. Here's the first one, and the ones below it are just like this. We're multiplying Units Sold by Unit Price. Ultimately, what we're trying to get is the total at the bottom. There can be situations where you simply want the total. You don't need the interim totals or the subtotals here. Here's what you might try, but it's not going to work. You'd like to add up the calculation that would involve taking every one of these entries times every one of these entries. And when you press Enter, you don't get an answer.
