Format sparklines for optimum visual impact

- If you'd like to create a chart that shows the progress or lack of progress over a 12-month period, like on the worksheet here called Sparklines, you could, of course, create a full-fledged chart, but, on the other hand, you could create something called a sparkline. A sparkline is an in-cell chart, and at first you might not be aware of the various formatting capabilities. I'm going to highlight these cells right here, and I'd like to put sparklines in there. This feature is found on the Insert tab. Sparkline is slightly misleading in its name. A sparkline could be a line type chart, a column chart, or what we call a win/loss chart. The Win/Loss option only makes sense if we've got positives and negatives both, and we do have that in the data here. Let's start with Line. When you select the area where you want the lines to appear, Excel comes back at us, in fact, saying. "Where is the source data?" Well, it's this data right here. Click OK. We've got our sparklines.
