- Excel has a number of different techniques 2 for identifying duplicate and unique data in worksheets. 3 Sometimes duplication in a large list is a problem. 4 We've got duplicate records in rows two and three here, 5 also rows four and five. 6 Now they pop out immediately, 7 primarily because they're at the top of the list, 8 but typically when you do sort a list, 9 duplicates are likely to become adjacent to one another. 10 Another approach could be let's highlight 11 where the duplication occurs 12 and then see how we're going to approach this. 13 I'll click column D. 14 And on the home tab, 15 let's go to conditional formatting, 16 highlight cell rules, duplicate values, 17 and already they're being highlighted. 18 And what might catch our eye there is that 19 in rows eight and 10 20 we've got duplicate social security numbers. 21 Looks like it's the same name, 22 but the person and maybe it isn't the same…
