- Costs associated with meals, travel, and location can easily be overlooked, especially for local projects. Meals should always be included for any all-day projects. Now at this stage of planning, you may not even know where you're traveling, or what locations you'll be using for the project, but there are strategies for ensuring you don't get stuck paying for these fees. Now meals. Regardless of whether you travel, or you're working locally, any full-day shoot should include meals. Depending on the size or complexity of the shoot, you may call in an outside catering firm, or just assign one of your production crew to set everything up. Unless absolutely necessary, you want to have the crew meals at your location, so people do not need to leave the production area. Now, meal rates vary, depending on where the production is located, but my starting rule of thumb is $10 for breakfast per person, $15 for lunch per person, and $20 to $30 for dinner, per person.
