Set up data for outlines
- Excel has a powerful tool called Outlining and it's ideal for certain kinds of presentations. On this worksheet called OutlineData here, its Budget Projections for the year 2017, goes out to column R and down to row 34. Column E and also column I, column M, column Q have summary type of information in them. There's a formula that's calculated in the data from the left. By this fact alone, we have the capability of using an outlining feature. The gist of this outlining feature is to suggest that at times we want collapse data. We don't want to see detail all the time. Just give me the big picture. Show me the totals or the subtotals, not all the detail. And we do this sometimes thinking of collapsing the vertical information like we see here in columns. Sometimes possibly collapsing some of the horizontal information we're seeing in rows. And it sounds as if we've got something complex ahead of us here in order to make this feature work. But all we really need to have in a worksheet…
