- [Instructor] If you work with phone numbers or zip codes 2 or social security numbers within the United States 3 and you're using Excel, you should be aware 4 of some special built-in formats 5 and also some techniques that you could be using 6 with data validation to screen out some bad entries. 7 Let's first focus on the phone numbers in columns 8 A, B, and C. 9 In that pink panel are three different ways 10 to display phone numbers, 11 but regardless of which one you prefer, 12 take the attitude that you will only type the numbers, 13 don't type the special characters. 14 The more you type, the more opportunity for errors. 15 The entry we see in column A actually is a built-in 16 format in Excel. 17 I haven't used it on these cells here just yet. 18 Let's imagine I will be filling in other entries 19 in column A, so I'll simply select column A 20 and use this built in format. 21 Press Ctrl-1 to get to format…
