Walking away from a project

- There are times when the client's needs and your budget just don't work together. You have to be prepared to walk away from some projects and do so professionally. Look, you are operating a business and your client is also operating a business. You have a bare minimum production budget and your client has a maximum spend budget. Sometimes those numbers are too far apart and when the client asks, "Is there any way you can do it "for my maximum budget?" It's okay for you to say, "I'm sorry, I can't." It's better to walk away from a project that's not going to pay what you need to run your business than to get frustrated as the project moves along because you know you're not getting paid enough. When you do walk away, just do so professionally. Just because you can't work together today, doesn't mean you won't have an opportunity down the road. Thank the client for the opportunity to bid on the project, wish them well, and ask them to reach out to you the next time they have a project…
