What you should know

- Now I'll be presenting specifically about video budgeting, but you can take the concepts from this course and apply them to any creative discipline. The information in this course is applicable to any experience level in the creative industry. This course covers the process for creating a budget for the production of an original project, from script to screen. Now throughout this course, I'll be demonstrating from a real project I recently produced from concept to delivery. - It's our big clear bowl of science. - It's called Water Science with Wade, an elementary education series where we essentially rebooted the Bill Bye Science Guy concept, but with an 18 year old host. This budget course covers the first three episodes. Now this is not the way to create a budget. This is my way, using my thought process. I recommend using what I present here as a basis to create your own template and modify this information for your needs. The budget I'll be presenting here is created using specialized software called Showbiz Budgeting. But, you don't need that software to watch this course or to create your budget. You can use any word processing or spreadsheet software. In fact, in the exercise files that accompany this course, I've provided a budget template for word processing and spreadsheet software. This will give you a good starting point to develop your own template. I've also provided an example of a client assessment with questions designed to help you better understand what the client needs from this project. Now if you have access to the exercise files for this course, you can download them to your desktop. If you don't have access to the exercise files, that's okay. You can still follow along by watching how I use the files. Now at times the amount of information we'll be sharing here may seem overwhelming, especially to those of you new to budgeting. I can assure you, we won't use all of these steps for every single budget. But like any other skill, the more you use it, the easier it becomes. All of these steps to budgeting will become second nature. Your client will usually ask you for a quote immediately, but never give a budget off the top of your head. This course will show you why you want to stop, analyze, and plan your budget before presenting it to the client.
