- When you deal with time in Excel, sometimes you're dealing 2 with times of day. 3 At other times you're dealing with time elapsed. 4 On this worksheet here, we've got some times in column A 5 and B and they're in different formats. 6 You can see that. In this first cluster here, 7 we want to know how much time is elapsed 8 between the end time and the start time. 9 In these formulas, we start 10 with the later time 17 7:00 AM minus the earlier time, 11 that's 1:28 AM over here. 12 And we get an answer that in a certain sense is correct, 13 but the AM kind of throws us perhaps. 14 The answer is five hours and 49 minutes, 15 but we don't want the AM in the format. 16 Let's jump into format cells. 17 We can do this quickly with control one. 18 Go to the number tab if it's not already selected 19 and then go to Time and not so obvious, 20 but 13:30 is the option we want. 21 We don't want the one that's got an AM or a PM…
