- [Instructor] When you have an Exchange hybrid configuration, you've got some options for where your email is first delivered. One option may be inbound messaging online, and that's where email gets delivered to an Exchange Online server first. This is Microsoft's recommended configuration for hybrid deployments, especially when you have more recipients in your Exchange Online organization than in your on-premises one. Email gets sent to the on-premise Exchange server after it gets delivered to the Exchange Online server and then data is synchronized and delivered to the clients. This is also an excellent way of using Exchange Online protection. All inbound email gets filtered for spam and viruses before getting delivered to either on-premises or an Exchange Online mailbox.
