- Sidechaining is a great technique that allows you to create more space in your mix. It allows you to mix your kick drums and basslines in together without muddying the mix or creating too much bass. With FL Studio, sidechaining is built into several of the plugins, making it much easier to accomplish. There are multiple ways of creating a sidechain in FL Studio. We're going to look at the method using the fruity limiter, as it is the ideal method for the beginner to use. Here, we have our project files loaded with our basic kick drum sample and bassline. What we want to do is first of all make sure we link these to the mixer. So go up to the Channel rack button, select your kick drum, hold shift, and select the bass as well, and then go up to your mixer, and right click on insert 1. What you want to then do is go down to Channel routing and select Route selected channels starting from this track. This will then link the kick drum and bassline to two separate inserts.
