Connecting a professional microphone to your computer
- Just as we have dedicated hardware to convert a professional video signal into Facebook Live, there are a wide range of solutions for professional audio and some of these solutions are very affordable, in the mid-range, priced between 50 and $200, US. Now, in this case, I have a simple, multi-channel mixer board that connects to my computer. You'll notice that it has a USB cable and this allows it to run directly into the computer, and it's converting the audio from analog sources to a digital signal. What we can do is easily take a microphone, in this case a professional XLR connection, and plug that in so it is connected. Now, this microphone has all sorts of controls. You'll notice, for example, that I can refine the gain control if the microphone isn't loud enough, to really trim that, and I do have a level control so that I can keep this really in the green, only occasionally touching the yellow.
