Options for accessing Fieldwire
- [Instructor] To access a project that's stored in the cloud on Fieldwire a user has several options. You can use the web app which is accessed by going here to the Fieldwire website and just clicking on log in. Once you log in with your user credentials, you have access to any project that you've created and any project that you've been invited to. To access this web app you can use most modern and current internet browsers to get there including Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. There is a note on the Fieldwire support site and Internet Explorer 11 also works but it's not recommended for the best experience. Web access works great if you're here at your desktop or you're in the field with your laptop and have internet access and the web app is the best way to create a new project and add new drawings to that project. But if you're in the field and you want to access your project documents on the go, you do have a few more options. First there is a Windows app and it's available in the Microsoft app store. You can also find it by going here to the Fieldwire site, selecting Product and then going down and clicking on Windows. Once you install that app you can see that it has a nice, clean interface. It gives you all the functionality of the web app but I'll tell you that this does require an active internet connection. There's no offline option here in this Windows app. If you're gonna be in the field without internet connectivity and you want to access the files and construction plans in Fieldwire while you're offline you'll need one of the mobile apps for Android or iOS. For Android, you can download the Fieldwire app from the Google Play Store and it'll work on both phones and tablets. For iOS you can find the Fieldwire app in the App Store for the iPhone and the iPad. Now I'll cover some of the specifics of these mobile apps later in the course. But what these mobile apps all have in common is that they allow you to sync with your Fieldwire projects when you're connected to the internet and then you can save those projects to your device for offline access when you're disconnected. What's nice about this is once you save a project to your device you can work with the files and drawings when you're offline and then when you reconnect the project will sync back up with the master copy in the cloud. This means that any markups that you added in the app while you were offline will push back up to that master set and anything in that master set that might have changed while you were offline will push back down to your device keeping everyone in sync and up to date. Think about what this means for a minute. Once a project's created in Fieldwire and the construction drawings and specifications and other documents are uploaded to that project in the cloud, everyone that's been invited to access that project can now view the latest, most up to date version of the plans and other documents without having to go to the job site trailer and without jumping through hoops to check drawing logs and emails to find out which revision number you're supposed to have.
