- Developers will often design a database so that some fields are automatically populated with default data when a user creates a new record in the database. which is where we can set these up, is only available you'll notice that the Options button is grayed out. All I have to do is hit Create in order for that Options to be available to us. that you're presented with is something called Auto-Enter. FileMaker allows developers to choose from various different options to automatically populate contents or when a record is created. And you'll find that some of the default fields that were created for us are great examples of these. in FileMaker Pro, you'll understand how important a PrimaryKey Field is. If we click on the Options on our PrimaryKey Field a new record is created. That's one methodology for insuring that every record in our database has a unique value in it, and that's the role of a PrimaryKey Field. it will automatically increment a new value in this field.
