Introducing layouts

- [Instructor] One of the things that sets FileMaker apart from other database platforms is the fact that FileMaker is more than just a database. It's actually the Data layer, which involves the Tables and Fields and relationships, and also the mechanisms that manage those. But in addition, in the same tool, comes the Presentation layer, which is the way that we create interfaces for our users. And those are called layouts in FileMaker. Layouts are the primary way of presenting and organizing data in FileMaker. They serve both as user interfaces as well as areas for design and development. Layouts can come in various shapes and forms, and can be rather simple or extremely detailed. It all depends on the needs of the system that you're creating, and the aesthetic sense and design skills of their creator. But FileMaker starts off every layout as a blank canvas, and you can create pretty much anything you want using the tools from there. We'll cover most of those tools here in this…
