Setting field behaviors

Sometimes when you place a field on a FileMaker layout it's really just there for display rather than to allow users to edit the data within the field. It can be kind of tricky for you because certainly you want to put some fields on the layout like let's say the Customer ID which happens to be our primary key field on this table. And I want users to be able to search inside of it. But there would be a lot of problems if I allowed users to go in and actually change that value. So, I want to display it, I want to search it, but I don't want to allow them to edit it. These are what we call field behaviors. If I go into Layout Mode, I can select any field. And if I go over to the Data section of the Inspector, and you'll see down below in Behavior. I've got these options right here, Field entry.
