- Collaboration is basic to filmmaking. This is one of its strengths. Making a painting is a personal thing, so is writing a novel or a piece of music, or making a sculpture. These things can be accomplished in groups, but that's not inherent in the basic nature of any of these other art forms. Filmmaking is the coming together of many art forms. Every film incorporates at least writing, photography, architecture, and acting. No one person has all the skills required to perform all these things at the highest level and simultaneously. As a result, a film represents the coming together of many artists and technicians. The efforts of all these skilled people must be coordinated in order for the film to succeed.
