- Ever since I was a kid watching movies, I've always chuckled when I saw the name Best Boy in the credits of movies even though I didn't know what that title meant. Sounds kind of insulting or something, I don't know. Despite the kind of ridiculous name, Best Boy's actually a pretty high ranking spot on a film crew. And when we say Best Boy, we're actually referring to two different positions. There's the best boy electric and the best boy grip. These best boy positions serve as the second in command in the electric and grip departments, respectively. The best boy electric acts as the gaffer's chief assistant, while the best boy grip is the key grip's chief assistant. On big film sets best boys have a lot of duties and responsibilities. Since we only had one grip, we didn't have a best boy grip. But, we did have a best boy electric and a pretty amazing one at that. Daniel Mimura served as our best boy electric.
