Blocking and lighting

- Let's examine one aspect of the management responsibilities of the cinematographer's work: the crew coordination required to execute camera moves quickly and effectively. Imagine how much easier it is to shoot a movie if moving the camera becomes effortless. The ability to move the camera easily is a real sign of a well-coordinated crew. This gives the director tremendous creative freedom in telling this story. The process is pretty simple, actually. Blocking is the process by which we decide where the actors go and where the camera will be as the scene progresses. The cinematographer views the blocking. As the blocking proceeds, the camera assistant throws down temporary marks. I suggest that in advance the camera assistant prepare color-coded t-shaped tape markers to be able to almost invisibly mark each position the actors take during this blocking.
