- While putting a microphone on the camera is useful, sometimes you need more flexibility. Maybe you're dealing with a group interview, or a crowd shot, and you're not sure who's gonna talk, but you wanna get an extra microphone over people. Or sometimes when folks are wearing a lot of layers, they turn their head side to side, and a secondary backup mic comes in handy. Well, what do you have here? - Well, what I have is a Shotgun Mic, that we just spoke about, mounted on a shock mount, but the whole thing is mounted onto a Boompole. Now Rich, in another episode, we go into a lot more detail with guest Jonathan Cohen, describing a Boom Technique, so be sure to check out that episode as well, but essentially what this allows you to do, is extend into the scene, so I can just kinda untwist things here, and get whatever level of reach that I need on the scene, and now you can see, I can be quite a bit of distance away, I didn't extend it all the way out, but to go into the scene.
