- One of the big things with LTO that's going to affect the cost is the standard or generation that you're using. We first got into LTO at my office with LTO-5, and by the time we were ready to upgrade and we wanted to get a faster unit, they'd gone to LTO-7. There's typically been about two to three years between generations, right? - Yeah, the consortium gets together and all the tech guys go, hey, these are our goals for the next generation. More capacity, faster write speeds, things of that nature. - All the typical technology things, more storage, faster speed. - Right, in a few years, probably another decade or so, probably about 10 years or so, we'll maybe see LTO-10 which I think has a capacity of 48 terabytes per cartridge, right, that's just crazy, but the generations that you're going to find in common use today are probably LTO-5 through LTO-7. And the easiest distinguishing factor about them is the capacity that they have to hold data. So let's start with an LTO-5 tape…
