- So we're, we're having a meeting here to talk about the shot list, which is why we have the production designer, the first AD, and the director and the cinematographer. The type of film will influence that. The cutting pattern of an action picture, for instance, would be faster than, let's say, a period piece. So most of the time, the director will make this on his or her own, whereas my contribution of that and the contribution of our other collaborators would be in prioritizing that list. One of the things we want to be clear about is the difference between the shot and a setup. What we want to avoid is completing a shot and moving on to a different setup when there may be three or four shots that can be done with the same setup. Sometimes that doesn't work because of the work of the actors, but we certainly want to know when we've done that.
