- Don't start with the camera. Quality cinematography comes from the script. So you first read the script, and you read the script without analyzing it, without studying it. Just let it wash over you. This is important because this is the first and only time you'll be this fresh about this material. Then I go back over it again, and now I'm prepared to start studying this. Now as you can see, I have Post-It notes that I've placed all through the script. The reason I do that, first of all you'll see I just, on a kind of personal note, I like to leave it hanging off the edge like this so that I can quickly get to my notes during my meetings with the director because these are director's questions. As I read it, questions will develop in my mind. Now I'll have an idea of how I'd like to approach the making of the movie, but I want to make sure that what I want to do harmonizes with what the director wants to do.
